Are they a tougher variant of Amanita Muscaroot?

Reminds me of Geodude, one of the original 150 Pokemon from Kanto. I remember Brock, one of Ash Ketchum's original travel companions, had one. My grandma bought a VHS of the first few episodes in the late 1990's when Pokemon first came out in USA.
